the 4th, ultimo I have the honour to report on the

July 27,1911. further progress of the negotiations undertaken by me

with the Ministry of Communications with a view to

assisting the conclusion of a working Agreement for the Canton Kowloon Railway.

As a result of the interview with Lord Li

reported in my Jespatch above referred to, I telegraphed

briefly to the Governor of Hongkong on the 29th. of

June informing him that in the opinion of the Ministry

the only real difficulty lay in the division of profita

and adding that a compromise between the 40% share

claimed by the British section of the Railway and the

25. share offered by the Chinese section would evident-
